''Other Dances'' is a ballet made by New York City Ballet balletmaster Jerome Robbins on Natalia Makarova and Mikhail Baryshnikov to the music of Chopin: :''Mazurka'', op. 17, no. 4 :''Mazurka'', op. 41, no. 3 :''Waltz'', op. 64, no. 3 :''Mazurka'', op. 63, no. 2 :''Mazurka'', op. 33, no. 2 Robbins originally made six variations on Makarova and Baryshnikov but used only four in performance; the other two are preserved on a rehearsal tape.〔Jean-Pierre Frohlich, balletmaster, NYCB seminar, ''Jerome Robbins: Community of Dancers'', Monday, June 16, 2008〕 The premiere took place on Sunday, May 9, 1976, at the Metropolitan Opera House, Lincoln Center, as part of a gala for the Performing Arts division of the New York Public Library. The costumes were by Santo Loquasto and lighting by Ronald Bates; the New York City Ballet premiere Friday, November 26, 1976, at New York State Theater (also at Lincoln Center).
